A virtual private network (VPN) provides an encrypted communications channel that is required to access Michigan Medicine resources like email, file servers, and more from a remote location. VPN is limited to users with Michigan Medicine Level-2 credentials or an "active Michigan Medicine VPN account", and are enrolled in Duo Two-Factor Security .

Over the next few months, a more secure connection method for the U-M Virtual Private Network (VPN) will be introduced, and the current method will be retired. The new method will direct people to Weblogin, and two-factor authentication using Duo will be required.
